Like all Wildflower schools, our team of Teacher-leaders facilitates both the teaching and administering of the school. Teachers-leaders are partners and social entrepreneurs, responsible primarily to themselves and each other for every aspect of the school and its overall success. By preserving a small scale, teacher-leaders are able to make day-to-day decisions that respond to the needs of the children and school-wide decisions that express their own vision in the context of the needs of children, families, and themselves.
About Us
Deja Jones is an early childhood researcher with over 8 years of teaching experience in Newark schools. Deja is a state and Montessori certified teacher with a primary diploma in 3-6 years. As a researcher, Deja focuses on restorative developmental practices for early learners in nature and holds a certificate in nature education from Cornell University's Civic Ecology Lab. As a Honeypot teacher-leader, Deja hopes to spearhead an environmental education movement in early childhood to contribute to the natural sustainability of Newark.
Taysiah Lawson is a Newark Native and is the Co-Founder/Teacher Leader at Honeypot Montessori. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Rider University and her Master’s degree in Professional Studies from George Washington University. Taysiah started her teaching journey in 2017 and has been teaching Elementary Education for 5 years. She is currently attending AMI 3-6 Teacher Training program at Rising Tide Montessori. She is truly looking forward to teaching in the community she grew up in. Taysiah loves the Montessori philosophy and is enthusiastic about helping young children realize their own unique potentials. She looks forward to fostering and guiding each child’s independence and learning experiences.
